Signals: How Video Transformed the World

Signals is a conceptual physical and digital poster series for MoMA’s Signals: How Video Transformed the World. Reflecting on the exhibition's message of video as an agent of global change—shaping public opinion and creating new publics—the physical posters, made of black die-cut vinyl, take a guerrilla-marketing approach, designed to overlay existing advertisements and reveal information about the exhibition. The digital poster is a 15 second-video meant for subway platform screen advertisements that uses glitch movements, signal interference, static, and blinking effects to express the language of technology and echo the exhibition title and the disruptive power of video as a transformative medium. The typeface used throughout the series is Proto Mono, a modular monospaced font built with rounded shapes chosen for its tech-industrial sensibility. Together, the posters form a multi-sensory identity system that reflects the exhibition’s themes while engaging audiences across physical and digital spaces.
