Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a visual identity for a fictional exhibition exploring the intersection of art, philosophy, and the sustainability of fungi. The project highlights the intricate connection between creativity and the natural world through the lens of mycology, emphasizing fungi’s potential to inspire both artistic expression and environmentally conscious practices. Designed to engage nature enthusiasts and those curious about the convergence of science, art, and ecology, the exhibition features a range of artists––from globally recognized figures like John Cage to emerging independent artists like Antoine Bridier-Nahmias.

Deliverables include an exhibition website, promotional advertisements, social media content, retail merchandise, sticker designs, and a series of exhibition catalogs. The visual language is rooted in the organic, bulbous forms of mushroom caps, with die-cut silhouettes and imagery that fills and interacts with these shapes. A bold, saturated palette of green, yellow, red, and blue references the vivid hues found in various fungi and the ecosystems they inhabit, signaling both the natural beauty and diversity of the fungal world. Typography consists of Club Lithographer, an eccentric, high-contrast italic that mirrors the expressive, unpredictable nature of fungi, paired with a soft, rounded sans serif that conveys breathability and the porous, cellular structures seen in mycelium networks.

The exhibition catalogs are designed as collectible accordion books that visually represent mushroom spores. They come in three unique shapes—triangular, semi-circular, and oval—allowing visitors to select a form that resonates with them after having walked through the exhibition. Each catalog pairs glossy, varnished images with fibrous, natural white, linen paper stock, reinforcing the tactile and organic qualities of the subject matter.
